Deer Antler Safety

Are Deer Antlers Safe For Dogs?

Market Place has some deer antlers on sale at a very reasonable price.  I have always heard about giving deer antlers to dogs for them to chew on and that they were good for their teeth. I never just take the word of the masses though when it comes to my pets or my kids. So I went looking for the answer. Let me tell you there is a lot of conflicting information about deer antlers being safe for dogs. Some sites say they are fine and even healthy and others are a hard NO on deer antlers.  I have always tried to leave it to the experts, so I went with what the American Kennel Club said. Needless to say, I will not be buying deer antlers for my dogs.  I would suggest if you are debating giving your dogs deer antlers or if you already do, this is a good article on the subject.  Read more at American Kennel Club.

I hope you have found this information helpful.

Dogs and Fruits

One of my dogs will eat just about any fruit you put in front of her.  One night I was eating some grapes and she wanted some. Without even thinking about it I fed her some. Then I got to thinking can she have grapes?  NO dogs can not have grapes. Thank goodness I had only fed her a few and I called the vet and they said she would be ok, but not to give her anymore.  Since then I have been very careful about what I feed my dogs. I would have felt so horrible if anything had happened to her.

Here is a list of fruits that are safe for your best friend.

Easy 2 Ingredient Dog Biscuits

2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 (4oz) jars of pureed baby food (sweet potato, beef, chicken, etc.)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2.  Mix ingredients together to form a soft dough. If it's too dry, add a tablespoon or two of water.
If it's too sticky, add a little more flour.
3.  Roll out dough on a floured surface. Use a cookie cutter or pizza cutter to cut out desired shapes.
4.  Place your cookies on a baking sheet about a half an inch apart (you can also lay down parchment
paper first, if you like).  Bake for 20-25 minutes.
5.  Cool completely before serving. Store in a brown bag to maintain crispness, or store in plastic
container for a softer texture. Makes about 24 biscuits (with a 3" biscuit shaped cookie cutter).

Adopt, Leash Training, Doggie Ice Cream

 Friends of Abilene Animal Shelter

 πŸ’«πŸΎπŸŒŸ SUNNY A44351467 πŸŒŸπŸΎπŸ’«
This sweet sweet girl is a 3 year old Terrier / Mix, weighing about 46 pounds! She has been at the shelter since May 20, 2020. We are not sure how she does around kids or other animals, so a meet and greet with her is a must when you’re wanting to see if she’s good around your kids and animals. She is very very sweet and is calm for the most part, but loves to do zoomies here and there. I am not sure why Sunny has been stuck at the shelter for so long, but she (along with all the other shelter animals) is needing her furever home! She will be loyal, playful and so loving to whoever adopts her, and she expects the same in return! Please keep in mind that adopting an animal is a lifelong commitment. They will need time to adjust and they will need guidance and patience from their new owner(s). If you are wanting to come meet Sunny, please stop by the shelter! She’d love to get out of that small kennel and hang out with you.

Leash Training
Does your dog constantly pull on his leash when you are going for walks? This can be super frustrating and sucks the fun right out of taking your pooch for a walk. The Folks at Love Of A Pet have an idea of how to get your dog to stop pulling on his leash.

Doggie Ice Cream WHAT?!?!
Oh my goodness what will they think of next. This is a healthy, yummy treat for your dog on a hot summer day. It comes in several flavors.

Pooch Creamery is a grain-free powdered ice cream mix for your pup that contains just five ingredients including lactose-free whole milk and real carob! Carob is naturally safe for dogs and tastes like chocolate. When you're ready to serve up some tasty ice cream, simply add water to the carob-y powdered mix, place it in the freezer, freeze for eight hours and scoop out a frozen reward for your furry friend. Pooch Creamery mix is a healthy way to give your pooch a delicious ice cream treat that will have his tail wagging for more every time.

  • Made and sourced in the USA

Dog Paw Balm Soother

Does your dog have dry cracked paws. I have noticed this in my own dogs.

Here is DIY recipe from SHTF PREPAREDNESS that is good for your dogs paws and will not hurt them if they lick it.

Reasons to Use Coconut Oil

Do you ever feed your dog coconut oil? I have found a few do treat recipes that use it, including the one on this post. I have a dog that has thyroid issues and is allergic to fleas so bad we have to use 2 different flea treated monthly. I think I will try some coconut and see how he does with it.

Home Again-Fleas and Ticks-Bulldog Treats

Home Again

Have you ever lost a pet?

Losing a pet can be heartbreaking for the whole family.

Sometimes you get your pet back and life returns to normal, but for those who do not get their beloved pet it can agonizing. Not know where you pet is or if they safe in the home another pet lover is hard to think about.  This is why it is important to be ready and have a plan in case your pet goes missing.

On Oct 18, 2018 our sweet baby girl went missing. We never got her back and we miss her very much.

I think what could I have different. She just bolted out the front door and was gone. I did have her microchipped but her chip was not recognized nationally. So even if they did take to the vet to be checked, odds are they would not have been able to find me anyway.

Since then I have found a service that I will never be without again.

Home Again

Home Again is a pet registering service and microchip service all in one.

You can get the chip inserted at your local vet or you can order a do it yourself kit. With Home Again you get a tag that matches the number on your chip and has your dogs name on it. This yellow tag is widely recognized and make it easy for people to know your pet has been chipped.

For a very small yearly fee you can even get some very nice added services, to help find your pet in case they get lost or need vet help.

See what Home Again is about and how it can help your family have peace of mind too.

Fleas and Ticks

It's that time of the year. Fleas and ticks are bad this time of year.

Make sure your dog is protected and  pest free.

Bulldog Treats

Don't forget to stop in this week and grab your dogs treats.
