Pumpkin and Banana Dog Treats

It's getting to be that time of year. Do you love Autumn? If your dogs like pumpkins and bananas then they are sure to love this recipe. Today's recipe is brought to you by Sparkes of Sunshine.

Pumpkin and Banana Treats

1 ripe banana mashed

1/3 cup pumpkin purée

1/2 cup whole wheat flour plus 1 Tablespoon

1-2 Tablespoons water

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, mash a very ripe banana with a fork. Add the pumpkin purée, flour, and 1 Tablespoon water. Mix well.

Dust your workspace with 1 Tablespoon of whole wheat flour and place the dog biscuit dough on top and knead 8-10 times. You can add 1 Tablespoon of water if the dough is too dry.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to about 1/4 in thickness. Cut into cute dog bone shapes with your cookie cutter and place them on the lined cookie sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

Possible Unsafe Treat

Possible Unsafe Treat

This was posted on Facebook. Many others have said the same thing has happened to their dogs after eating this treat.

Original Post
My healthy dog ate a duck flavored Lucky Chew Sticks a product from Loving Pets that we received in her Super Chewer Bark Box and now she’s gone! She went from a healthy, happy dog to dead in 24 hours after eating this chew. She did not have anything out of the ordinary and was kenneled during and after consuming it, when the vomiting began. This is so wrong and I am so angry. She didn’t deserve to suffer the way that she did, she had so much more life left to live. PLEASE AVOID THIS BRAND! Avoid duck flavor treats and read the link I posted from the FDA’s website below. (I don’t know if this is considered a jerky treat but it was duck flavor). She was not the only dog who’s gotten sick from these chews! I wish we knew better sooner 💔 She ate this chew at 9pm on Sunday and began throwing up at around 2-3AM Monday morning. She went to the vet on Monday & died Monday night. We have been in contact with Bark Box, they are aware and they have been very sympathetic and helpful through out this process.

Loving Pets Response
We were tagged today in a private page's post making an unfounded accusation against one of our products: Prior to the post that was sent to us today, we have not been made aware of any issues regarding our products. We produce millions of treats for happy healthy pets worldwide every year. We perform extensive tests on all of our products, which are made in the USA under the highest standard of quality. Currently, we are making every effort to reach out to this person in regard to these accusations. There are multiple things that make up each dog’s diet, and unfortunately some Dogs can find their way into items inside or outside the home, that can be hazardous to their health. We are a family-owned business and always pride ourselves on being a stand-up operation, with the ultimate goal of serving pets and pet parents with healthy, safe products. We respectfully ask that you refrain from sharing any mention of this unfounded accusation until we get in contact with this individual and there is any information to support her claims, which we believe is not the case. Thank you to our Loving Pets family!!

The reason I decided to post this on our blog is because
1. It is very sad this happened and people need to know it could happen
2. This person is not the only person who has reported this happening after
their dog ate this treat. Several people have reported this on the Loving Pets Facebook Page
3. The poor response from Loving Pets.

This is very sad. Our hearts go out to those who have had their dog injured.
This post is meant to be a public awareness post only.

Deer Antler Safety

Are Deer Antlers Safe For Dogs?

Market Place has some deer antlers on sale at a very reasonable price.  I have always heard about giving deer antlers to dogs for them to chew on and that they were good for their teeth. I never just take the word of the masses though when it comes to my pets or my kids. So I went looking for the answer. Let me tell you there is a lot of conflicting information about deer antlers being safe for dogs. Some sites say they are fine and even healthy and others are a hard NO on deer antlers.  I have always tried to leave it to the experts, so I went with what the American Kennel Club said. Needless to say, I will not be buying deer antlers for my dogs.  I would suggest if you are debating giving your dogs deer antlers or if you already do, this is a good article on the subject.  Read more at American Kennel Club.

I hope you have found this information helpful.

Dogs and Fruits

One of my dogs will eat just about any fruit you put in front of her.  One night I was eating some grapes and she wanted some. Without even thinking about it I fed her some. Then I got to thinking can she have grapes?  NO dogs can not have grapes. Thank goodness I had only fed her a few and I called the vet and they said she would be ok, but not to give her anymore.  Since then I have been very careful about what I feed my dogs. I would have felt so horrible if anything had happened to her.

Here is a list of fruits that are safe for your best friend.
